Dear Sir,
The emerging influenza is a global concern. There are many emerging influenza infections within the past few years. The latest emerging influenza which has just been confirmed is the H6N1 bird flu. The first human case report is from Taiwan, and this leads to the worldwide concern on this newest bird flu. [1] According to a recent report on this infection, the clinical presentation is the same as general influenza. [2] However, there is an interesting observation on complete blood count (CBC). The CBC pattern in the patient show slightly leukocytosis with neutrophilia. This pattern is very interesting since the viral infection generally presents no leukocytosis and neutrophilia. This trend is totally different from the CBC that is observed in H5N1 bird flu. [3] The underlying mechanism to explain the CBC change in human H6N1 bird flu needs further study for explanation.
